The Impact of Goat Domestication on Prehistoric Humans

06-04-2023

An article outlining the importance of goat domestication in human society. I focused my research on Capra hircus, a goat species from the Zagros mountains in western Iran which is the oldest archaeozoological evidence of domesticated animals. The research outlines the domestication of goats using archaeological evidence and comparing different regions and times to determine the range of the initial domestication of goats. I then discussed on impact of goats on society. Specifically I discussed how goat domestication impacted methods of storage and preservation, food preparation, trade and the commercialization of agriculture in Iran. Finally, I discussed the changes in the fossil record and morphology of goats. I concluded that the domestication of goats was a monumental event in human history which altered sedentism, diet, and altered goats as well.
